Kung Fu Window
Kung Fu Window
Acrylic and Spray Paint on Paper
10.5” x 13.5”
1990

This #painting , which was taken from one of my early #sketchbooks , was created by luck. When I’m working on a painting I usually lay out multiple sketchbooks and pages so no paint goes to waste. Most of the times these painted surfaces end up becoming the foundation for other #artwork .

In this particular piece I had #spraypainted a page from my #artbook with #yellow spray paint. I used a #kungfu ceramic sculpture as a paper weight while it dried. As the day got long, and the sun set, I noticed the #shadow of the #warrior on the page with the iron bars from my windows cast in the background. I quickly grabbed a brush and as quickly as I could traced over the shadows with my leftover paint. The image you see is a result of that tracing.

Sometimes your talent creates art and sometimes, like this one, you just get lucky.
