"What's Going On" is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic gel press artwork that showcases my growing learning process of this unique medium. As only my second successful gel press creation, the piece captures an intimate and powerful tribute to Marvin Gaye, blending warmth and intensity through vibrant reds, oranges, and earthy browns. The layering technique of the gel press adds a textural depth to the composition, mirroring the layered complexity of Gaye's iconic music and message. The warm hues evoke both the soul-stirring passion of his voice and the urgency of his timeless calls for love, unity, and social change.
This artwork reflects a harmony between my creative experimentation and a deep emotional connection to my subject. The bold colors, coupled with the organic textures of the gel press, create a sense of movement and rhythm, almost as if the music itself has been captured visually on the page. "What's Going On" not only pays homage to the legendary artist but also represents a significant milestone in my artistic journey. The piece resonates with a raw yet deliberate energy, inviting viewers to feel both the beauty and the weight of the questions posed by Gaye’s timeless work.
