Disintegration
Disintegration
Acrylic on Paper (Gel Plate)
8.5” x 11”
2025

"Disintegration" is an 8.5" x 11" gel plate transfer with acrylic on cardstock, featuring Robert Smith, the voice and soul of The Cure. This piece was almost lost—what started as a promising painting ripped, leaving me heartbroken and ready to discard it. But for some reason, I held onto it, letting it sit in the studio like a song left unfinished. When I finally returned to it, I layered a fresh image transfer over the torn surface, and suddenly, the imperfections told a new story. The fragmented layers created a visual sense of decay, mirroring the themes of loss and beauty in the album that shares its name.

Like The Cure’s Disintegration, this piece embraces the idea that sometimes destruction leads to something more meaningful. The cracks and tears became part of the art, much like how heartache and time shape who we are. What was once a failed attempt evolved into something raw and deeply personal—an homage to imperfection, resilience, and the haunting elegance of Robert Smith’s music.
