Abstract
Agua y Violetas, my 2018 painting, is an evocative and vibrant piece that embraces both the sensory and cultural significance of its title. Created on brown paper using watered-down acrylics in soft shades of white, blue, and light purple, the abstract composition flows with a sense of fluidity and grace. Deliberate drips and scattered paint drops add a layer of spontaneity and energy, giving the piece a dynamic rhythm that draws the viewer in.
The title, which translates to “Water and Violets” in Spanish, holds a deeper meaning rooted in cultural memory. It references the beloved violet-scented body splash traditionally used by Hispanic families on babies—a fragrance instantly recognizable to many, filled with nostalgia, tenderness, and care. Through this painting, I sought to blend the essence of water as a natural, flowing element with the emotional familiarity of a scent tied to heritage and upbringing. The result is a multisensory experience that bridges abstraction with deeply personal and cultural associations.
