Word on the Street
This is my latest artwork titled "I Won't Be A Part of Your Circus," created as part of my ongoing series "Word on the Street." The series is built around collecting phrases and snippets from conversations, shows, writings, and other sources I encounter, then releasing them back into the public space in the form of art. These works cover a wide range of themes including love, friendship, heartbreak, and personal empowerment. This particular phrase came from a conversation with a friend who, like me at the time, was navigating the frustration of dating someone whose unresolved issues brought more chaos than joy.
The sentiment behind the piece is rooted in a shared decision to protect our peace. We agreed that whether the cause was emotional immaturity, selfishness, or deeper unaddressed traumas, neither of us wanted to sacrifice our well being for the sake of managing someone else’s disorder. The phrase became a simple but powerful declaration, a reminder that setting boundaries is not only acceptable but necessary for a healthy life.
