“Boomba” is a 5" x 5.5" mixed media collage born from an old cartoon caricature I once sketched of a vibrant former coworker who lit up every room—and workday—with joy. Boomba was the heartbeat of our crew, always full of stories, laughter, and boundless energy. I rediscovered that playful drawing and decided to give it new life, cutting it out and building a dynamic collage around it. The background bursts with vivid greens, a tribute to the polyester uniforms we wore and the lawns, fields, and lush greenery that shaped our daily environment.
The piece radiates with starburst patterns and youthful colors that speak to the children we served and the sunshine that followed us through long summer days. Boomba’s personality always felt like sunshine—bright, warm, and unstoppable—and this artwork channels that spirit. I created it on recycled cardboard, both as a nod to sustainability and as a symbolic gesture toward a cleaner future. “Boomba” is joy, memory, and hope wrapped into one small canvas.
