This is my latest artwork titled Vero Magic, completing the family portrait set I created for her and her daughters. Each piece shows their portrait in gray tones paired with a favorite color, with a strong burst of that color contained within a circle to pull the eye toward the focal point. I keep finding circles slipping into my recent work and I will be digging into why that keeps happening.
I have known Vero since we first met in elementary school, and we have drifted in and out of each others lives while always staying connected. Over the years we have traded advice about schools, shared the best spot to watch the stars in the Everglades, swapped music, and had plenty of couch phone therapy. She is an incredible mom who has cleared every hurdle without showing the strain, a steady hero in her girls lives, and many times I have leaned on her for parenting guidance. She is also the friend who helped me sage the hell out of my house. For this piece I matched her favorite color as closely as I could and made sure to highlight her piercings. She is a wonderful mom, and like many moms from Hialeah she can offer wisdom, set boundaries, and throw down with the verbal grace of a pirate.
