Mixed Media
This piece, What If You Had The Maturity, was created back in early September as a mixed media artwork that merges visual art and written word. It combines collage elements using fragments of lyrics and poetry I originally wrote on paper, many of which can be found under @soulbarelyspoken on Instagram. By embedding these personal writings into an abstract background of teals, aqua, yellow, and black, I aimed to create something that feels both emotional and textured—a visual representation of thoughts that might otherwise have remained only on the page. The piece carries the rawness of a letter or song written to no one in particular, yet born from the intense emotions that follow betrayal.
The contrast of the grungy, abstract texture against the delicacy of handwritten words captures the inner tension of processing loss and disillusionment. It speaks to that quiet space where words and feelings blur, and where pain becomes fuel for creation. I often work through music and painting simultaneously, letting the rhythm of one bleed into the structure of the other. In this case, the art and the writing coexist, each amplifying the emotion of the other, making the piece as much a conversation between mediums as it is a conversation between memory and healing.
