"Papi" is a deeply personal and touching tribute, born from a place of genuine friendship and office camaraderie. This portrait was created as a surprise for Rosa, a dear friend and a "work-mom" to the entire office, honoring her cat who recently passed away. The source of inspiration for the artwork was not a photograph, but rather a small patch given to Rosa by her sister, which I utilized to carefully recreate Papi's likeness. The result is a vibrant, green-eyed Calico who seems to jump right off the canvas, capturing not just a physical appearance, but a lasting, loving memory for a wonderful, supportive person.

The technical execution of the piece uses a gritty, textured background of deep green, providing a rich contrast to Papi’s warm brown, peach, and white fur. There is a tactile, etched quality to the lines defining his coat, blending traditional portraiture with an almost engraved aesthetic, mirroring the texture of the original inspiration patch. White, delicate whiskers catch the light, adding a sense of delicate vitality. This artwork serves as more than just a depiction; it is a visible, loving act of friendship, ensuring Papi’s spirit continues to provide comfort to the friend who looks after everyone else.
