This profound mixed media artwork, titled "Just Like Mommy," acts as the devastatingly honest conclusion to a powerful two-part diptych series. Following its companion piece, "Grew Up To Be," this painting completes a raw psychological exploration into the inescapable nature of generational trauma and cycles of behavior. It shines a deliberate light on the uncomfortable truth that despite our fiercest intentions to forge a different path, we often end up trapped in the exact same loops as those who raised us, living out identical lives completely oblivious to our own descent. Specifically dedicated to individuals who have had to navigate the scars of a difficult upbringing and negative role models, the piece captures the heartbreaking moment of realizing that the replication of the past has already taken root.

The visual composition brilliantly mirrors this themes of psychological bleeding and inevitable inheritance, as captured in the file "Just Like Mommy". Shifting the weight of the diptych, the left side of the canvas features a vast, distressed field of white gesso, where the hand-written words "just like mommy" cut cleanly across the negative space like a sudden, sobering realization. Breaking into this quiet field from the right is a massive, textured continental shape composed of collaged layers, organic green washes, and deep teal undertones. This chaotic mass is filled with dense cursive handwriting, creating a literal map of inherited scripts and maternal echoes. Legible fragments like "all you were looking for" and "tough?" bubble up through the paint, signifying the deeply embedded memories and behaviors that subconsciously dictate our adult actions.

By utilizing a complex interplay of torn paper collage, energetic brushwork, and subtle texturing, the artwork masterfully documents the loss of a clean slate. Small, fractured islands of the teal and green collage have broken off from the main mass, drifting leftward into the white space as if actively invading the territory of the self. These drifting fragments serve as a brilliant visual metaphor for the stealthy, unmediated ways old family dynamics creep back into our lives. "Just Like Mommy" stands as a visually stunning, emotionally heavy work of art that does not shy away from the darker corners of identity, providing a resonant voice to the exhausting battle of recognizing—and trying to break—the generational chains that bind us.
