This deeply layered mixed media artwork, titled "Happy Birthday," presents a complex, bittersweet meditation on celebration, fragmented family memories, and the quiet heartache hidden behind festive facades. Constructed using repurposed birthday present tissue paper, Mod Podge, acrylic washes, and ink, the surface takes on a crinkled, translucent skin that feels both celebratory and worn. An eclectic collision of mottled yellows, aquatic blues, deep wine reds, and lime greens spreads across the composition, mimicking the chaotic joy of party confetti while subverting it into an atmospheric, emotionally charged landscape.
Floating throughout the abstract field are circular cutouts, metallic silver dots, and stamped orb-like patterns that evoke balloons, bubbles, or distant memories drifting out of reach. Gestural strokes of bold acrylic and ink stains pool within the crevices of the adhered tissue, giving the artwork an aged, water-damaged appearance reminiscent of a preserved childhood keepsake.
