The Inside Joke > Down To The Bones

As part of the collection "The Inside Joke: Down To The Bones," "The Quietest Room In The House" directly advances the journey that began with last year's well-received exhibition, "The Inside Joke: The Bare Bones of Narcissism." This year's gallery expands its reach far beyond narcissism to explore other dark, complex corners of the human condition and psyche. With this piece, the focus turns toward the heavy, suffocating weight of depression.

In this poignant composition, a long-haired skeletal figure sits curled tightly on the floor of a shower stall, knees pulled toward its chest beneath cold plumbing fixtures. Bathed in monochromatic, watery shades of deep blue and teal, the scene captures the total exhaustion, isolation, and quiet numbness that define major depression. The image translates the universal experience of seeking retreat in the solitude of a bathroom, where the world outside pauses and one is left alone with the sheer weight of existence.

By applying signature skeletal iconography to the reality of depression, "The Quietest Room In The House" strips away pretense to reveal the raw vulnerability of an overwhelmed mind. It stands as an evocative, deeply empathetic addition to the gallery, offering an honest mirror to the unspoken struggles carried in life's quietest, most private moments.
