Picasso Hanger
Picasso Hanger
Acrylic on Paper
8.5” x 11”
2022

This artwork was created as an assignment for my college painting class. Done as an exercise to loosen us up and get the creative process going, our teacher would have us pick out famous paintings, give us about 1 minute to quickly draw them out then a couple of minute to do multiple versions of the artwork with different methods and styles of paintings. Sometime we had a broad range of colors to choose from and other times she challenged us with very limited palettes. In this particular work I started with a Picasso painting and went on from there. There was talk at the time about overturning Roe vs. Wade and made the image of a hanger over the piece with a very harsh red color that immediately makes you think of blood. It’s very straightforward and very little time was spent on this piece.
