Mail Art South Florida
This is my latest painting titled "Cowfecito", an acrylic piece measuring five by seven inches on watercolor paper. It was created as part of my ongoing contribution to the Mail Art Movement, a project through which I share snapshots of Florida's unique wildlife, political atmosphere, cultural moments, and personal perspectives with a broader audience. This piece draws its inspiration from Miami Lakes, a town with deep connections to the Governor's mansion, once expansive cow pastures, and the influence of Cuban immigrants who have left a lasting cultural imprint.
In "Cowfecito", I brought together all these threads in a whimsical way by painting a cow enjoying a cup of coffee. The cow wears an orange and aqua Hawaiian shirt, a playful nod to the fashion often seen among middle-aged Latinos in South Florida. The background is a vibrant mix of aqua and yellow, echoing the bright and nostalgic colors popular in the early 1960s when Miami Lakes was established. This combination of visual storytelling and cultural homage is central to my practice as an artist and contributor to the Mail Art Movement.
