Word on the Street
My latest artwork, Acta Non Verba, is an 8.5" x 11" mixed media exploration on cardstock that embodies the tension between language and action. With a layered background of pastel blues and oranges, the surface is distressed and raw, giving a grungy texture that reflects inner conflict. A bold, deep red block slashes through the middle at an angle—interrupting the calm, much like how real action can cut through empty words. This juxtaposition sets the emotional tone: visceral, unapologetic, and determined.
Over this powerful foundation, the phrase "Acta Non Verba" (Latin for "Deeds, not words") takes center stage in orange graffiti-style bubble letters, edged sharply in dark blue Sharpie. Flanking each side, smaller cursive versions of the same phrase, written in light blue paint marker, create a quiet echo—almost like whispers compared to the central shout. This piece is a visual mantra, a reminder that what we do holds more weight than what we say.
