"La Llorona 2" is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic painting on paper, created using a gel plate transfer technique. The artwork captures the haunting beauty of a Día de los Muertos woman adorned in traditional skeletal makeup, her hollowed eyes and delicate bone structure evoking both sorrow and reverence. Rich pink and yellow roses crown her head, symbolizing the vibrancy of life even in the presence of death. The background, awash in striking aqua and neon green hues, adds a sense of the ethereal, blending the realms of the living and the departed. This interplay of color and texture gives the piece an almost ghostly glow, reinforcing the legend of La Llorona—a figure steeped in Mexican folklore, mourning the past while lingering in the present.

At its core, La Llorona 2 is a celebration of Mexican culture and an homage to those who have passed. The skeletal visage, adorned in beauty and tradition, reflects the way Día de los Muertos embraces death not with fear, but with love and remembrance. The roses, lush and full of life, contrast against the spectral features, reminding us that our ancestors remain with us, their presence woven into our existence. Through its bold colors and layered textures, the painting bridges the gap between folklore and fine art, capturing both the sorrowful lament of La Llorona and the joyful spirit of honoring the dead.
