Abstract
This piece is one of the first entries in my very first #sketchbook—an #abstract created with #acrylicpaint on paper. I don’t typically work with such dark colors in my #abstracts or #paintings in general, which is part of why this one has always stood out to me. It began as a thick glob of paint, and from there I started building up the surface in layers. Midway through, I grabbed a spatula and carved out the border by removing paint, essentially shaping the piece by both adding and subtracting material at the same time.
The final layer was a splash of neon #yellow, which I feel completely transformed the mood of the painting. Without it, the piece might have remained too heavy or somber, but the yellow brought energy and light. It created a strong #contrast against the deeper tones—especially the #purple border—and gave the composition a sense of vibrancy and balance that it really needed.
