This is my latest painting titled "Golden Mauri," an eight and a half by eleven inch acrylic painting and gel plate transfer on cardstock. The piece is painted in a shimmering gold tone that reflects the warmth and brightness of my cousin Maurita’s personality. For the background, I layered musical notes, handwritten text, and stamped designs to create a textured and personal backdrop. Music has always been a shared bond between us, with my tastes leaning toward classic rock and hers toward the modern sounds of her time. Somewhere in between, we connected through alternative music that we both enjoyed.
Maurita is a beautiful and kind soul, someone whose light seems to shine through even the toughest of days. This work is both a tribute to her and a visual reminder of the shared history, laughter, and love that define our relationship. While the scan cannot fully capture the way the gold paint catches the light, in person the piece glows much like her spirit does in life.
