Seahorse is a painting created on recycled cardboard. The piece began as an old cardboard box, upcycled into a work of art. The circular “bubble” shapes in the background were made by pressing folded pieces of cardboard onto the surface, adding texture and depth.

I painted this for my wife’s (then fiancée’s) apartment, which was decorated in a nautical theme and filled with her favorite teal and aqua tones. I’ve always enjoyed painting animals—especially wildlife and marine life—as a way of symbolically returning nature to spaces it once inhabited.

By repurposing old boxes and materials, I also help keep them out of landfills. I’m a strong advocate for recycling and upcycling, believing that each of us has a role to play in creating a better world for future generations.
