There Are Layers
Acrylic and Ink on Cardboard
7.5” x 11”
2025

This is my latest painting titled "There are layers," a seven and a half by eleven inch acrylic on cardboard. It was created on the back of a Raisin Bran Crunch cereal box as part of my ongoing commitment to reuse materials and keep them out of landfills by transforming them into art. The work began with long oval shapes in blue, which I then traced in neon pink. From there, I added similar forms in mustard and bright yellow, creating a rhythm of shapes that built up the surface with energy and movement.

To push the depth even further, I layered small yellow circles over black stamped circles that were surrounded in gold, giving the painting both flow and dimension. I intentionally left areas of the cardboard exposed to reveal the rawness of the original material and highlight the transformation from discarded packaging to expressive artwork. The result is an abstract piece that speaks to renewal, process, and the beauty that can emerge from what was once considered waste.
