My latest piece, "Wild Willie", is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic painting on cardstock created through gel plate technique. It captures the iconic presence of Willie Nelson—red bandana wrapped around his head, dressed in a casual blue tee and worn-in jean jacket, with a backdrop of galloping horses that nod to Moe, and the untamed spirit of the American countryside. But while the image may evoke his outlaw country persona, this piece is not just about the legend—it’s about the man who’s never stopped showing up for the people who need him most.
Willie Nelson has always been more than a music icon to me—he's a living symbol of solidarity, empathy, and grassroots connection. His lifelong support for farmers, his compassion for rural communities, and his quiet yet powerful gestures of unity—like donning a Stoneman Douglas shirt after the tragedy in Parkland—speak volumes about the depth of his character. I’ll never forget how he and his wife reached out to ensure he and his crew wore #MSDStrong gear on stage in Pompano Beach. That moment, where teachers from the school met him and shared a space of mutual respect, moved me deeply. This painting is a heartfelt tribute to a man whose greatness lies not just in his music, but in the unwavering kindness and integrity he brings to the world.
