"Robert Smith" is an 8.5" x 11" gel plate transfer with acrylic on cardstock, capturing the enigmatic lead singer of The Cure. This piece marks a new artistic exploration for me, as I move away from my usual black first layer and dive into a rich color palette of blues and greens. The cool tones reflect the melancholic beauty of Robert’s music, while subtle touches of light yellows and oranges add energy and contrast—much like The Cure’s ability to blend darkness with moments of brilliance.
As I continue refining my technique with gel plate transfers, this piece represents a step toward discovering my own artistic style. There’s something fitting about experimenting with color on an image of Robert Smith, an artist who has always embraced the balance of light and shadow in his work. This painting is a tribute to that same spirit—expressive, atmospheric, and emotionally.
