Abstract
This artwork titled Leopard Frills measures six inches by eight inches and is executed in mixed media using acrylic, ink, and collage on a carefully prepared surface of cardstock layered over recycled cardboard. The artist has chosen to work with discarded packaging material, not only as a creative decision but also as an ecological gesture, elevating an ordinary and overlooked material into the realm of fine art. By doing so, the work carries both aesthetic and environmental significance, reminding viewers that beauty and cultural value can be found in what might otherwise be wasted. The deliberate use of reclaimed cardboard situates the piece within a broader conversation about sustainability and the role of art in reimagining the everyday.
The composition reveals a striking interplay of forms and colors. A broad, rainbow-like structure anchors the background, its bands of olive, dark blue, and lavender establishing a rhythm that guides the eye across the surface. This is contrasted by a collaged element featuring black stripes, evoking the suggestion of a fin slicing through water, an image that adds both movement and mystery. Hovering above, a rolled strip of yellow paper introduces a sculptural quality, casting subtle shadows that enrich the depth of the piece. Finally, the overlay of dark black and olive green leopard markings offers a bold and tactile presence, suggesting the interplay of wildness and pattern. Taken together, these elements create a layered dialogue between natural imagery and abstraction, a reminder of how art can hold multiple interpretations within a single frame.
