Abstract
Peanuts is a 5" x 8" mixed media collage and the second half of a two-part series, created alongside its companion piece, Hooray. This artwork weaves together elements from my children’s lives—recycled Sprite box cardboard representing my daughter’s favorite drink, and playful cutouts from my son's Charlie Brown coloring book. More than just visual storytelling, Peanuts is an intimate collage of family memories and shared creativity. It captures the warmth and simplicity of childhood, turning everyday scraps into something lasting and joyful.
For this piece, I layered the Sprite box cardboard to form windows—each framing a different Peanuts character, giving a sense of quiet observation and depth. Atop these layers sits a bold, abstract shape I hand-drew with a Sharpie, adding contrast and structure to the green-toned composition. Texture plays a key role here: bubble wrap gives the surface a bumpy, almost animated quality, while a white flower print from one of my rubber stamps offers a soft, organic counterpoint. The effect is playful yet reflective, showing how creativity can bloom from the most ordinary materials.
Creating Peanuts was not only an artistic exercise but a teaching moment for my children—about sustainability, the joy of making, and the idea that trash can be transformed into treasure. Like Hooray, this piece was placed in our neighborhood’s Little Library as a free gift, a way to spread art, encourage reading, and give something back to the community. Together, these pieces are a celebration of love, learning, and looking at the world through a more creative, generous lens.
