Blue Bull
Acrylic on Cardstock
5” x 7”
2025

My latest piece, Blue Bull, is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic gel press print on cardstock that pays tribute to the American Bison—a powerful symbol of the wild and an icon of resilience. The artwork features a bold bison print over a vivid blue background, with the haunting words “They once covered the grasslands like snow” written in graffiti-style blue Sharpie. The stark contrast between the animal’s strength and the soft, almost dreamlike hue of the backdrop invites reflection on what was lost and what remains.

Blue Bull is both a personal homage to the bison I encountered during my visit to Yellowstone and a larger environmental statement. These magnificent creatures once roamed the American West in the millions, shaping ecosystems and sustaining biodiversity. Today, they are confined to fragments of land, victims of historical exploitation and disregard. This work is a reminder of their grace and their vital role in nature—and a call to protect what little remains before it's too late.
