More Word on the Street
Colorful Kaiho
9” x 12”
Acylic and Ink on Paper
8/30/25
"Colorful Kaiho" continues the artist’s "Word on the Street" collection, a body of work that seeks to leave art within public spaces as acts of quiet generosity and reflection. This piece began with an old drawing of an anchor, a symbol often tied to grounding, stability, and weight. The drawing was revisited, layered with vibrant paint, and inscribed with the word "Kaiho," a Japanese term that conveys a profound sense of melancholic longing. Through this transformation, the once static anchor becomes a vehicle for emotional depth, simultaneously rooted and searching, still and yearning.
The layering of paint and text reflects the complexity of the feeling itself, suggesting that longing is not singular but built from fragments of memory, desire, and imagination. As with all works in this collection, "Colorful Kaiho" is meant to be discovered in the flow of daily life, offering viewers a pause for contemplation outside the expected confines of a gallery. The artist challenges the passerby to engage with both the energy of color and the quiet weight of the word, creating a dialogue between vibrancy and vulnerability.
