The Night Monster
The Night Monster
Acrylic and Ink on Cardboard
11” x 12.5”
2025

This is my latest painting titled "The Night Monster," created with acrylic and ink on cardboard. It is part of my ongoing efforts to repurpose cardboard and other discarded materials into art, giving them a new life instead of letting them end up in a landfill. The piece comes from exploring characters with my toddler son, where we imagine and design monsters that are playful, colorful, and engaging rather than frightening. This approach makes the creative process fun while also sparking imagination and storytelling in our daily lives.

For this monster, I painted a large blue figure with horns, small beady black eyes, and a body filled in using a wide light blue marker. To add personality, I gave him chest armor and dotted his face with little white freckles, making the character both whimsical and approachable. Creating this piece with my son was especially enjoyable as we prepared the house for Halloween, blending art with family time and seasonal traditions.
