Day of the Dead Sunflower
Day of the Dead Sunflower
Acrylic and Ink on Cardstock (Gel Plate)
8.5” x 11”
2025

This is my latest painting titled "Day of the Dead Sunflowers," created using the gel plate method as part of my ongoing Dia De Los Muertos collection. The work depicts a beautiful woman with her face painted in traditional blue and red designs, embodying the celebratory and reverent spirit of the holiday. She is adorned with golden earrings and crowned with bright sunflowers woven into her hair, symbolizing light and remembrance. The combination of these details reflects the balance of life and death central to the tradition.

Her long copper hair is braided into two ponytails, adding both elegance and strength to her presence. Set against a dark green background, the figure stands out vividly, almost glowing with a quiet energy. The piece continues my exploration of Dia De Los Muertos themes, using vibrant colors and symbolic imagery to celebrate heritage, honor those who have passed, and remind us of the beauty in remembrance.
