Dia De Los Muertos
Creating "Dia De Los Muertos 3" was a deeply personal and meaningful experience for me as an artist. The Day of the Dead celebration has always inspired me with its vibrant colors, symbolism, and the way it connects the living with the memory of those who have passed. In this piece, I combined illustration, painting, and watercolor techniques to create layers of texture and emotion. Using watered down acrylics in my signature drip style, I wanted to capture the movement and energy of the celebration while still honoring its sacred and reflective nature. The drips act as both decoration and symbolism, representing the fleeting nature of life and the beauty found in its impermanence.
This artwork also carries a special place in the body of work I created in 2018, a year where I explored new themes and pushed my boundaries as a painter. That series included a mix of illustrations and paintings, and "Dia De Los Muertos 3" became a standout because of how seamlessly it blended both mediums. The sister piece to this painting, which is an illustration, holds its own but also complements this work by expanding on the themes of connection, heritage, and remembrance. Together, they form a dialogue between mediums while celebrating the same cultural heart.
Ultimately, "Dia De Los Muertos 3" is more than just a painting for me—it is a celebration of life, family, and cultural traditions that transcend time. It honors the resilience of memory, the beauty of heritage, and the importance of keeping stories alive through art. I am humbled to have created it and proud that it stands as part of a larger exploration of culture, identity, and meaning through my artistic journey.
