This is my latest painting titled "Matt's Blues," created using a gel plate as part of a set of commissions. The work depicts Matt playing his guitar, captured in a classic pose that emphasizes his love and connection to the instrument. I created the piece in two tones, using black and a deep iridescent blue, to give the image both weight and movement, as though the figure is illuminated by stage lights while still grounded in shadow. The limited palette allows the details of the guitar and pose to stand out more vividly.
The contrast of dark and shimmering tones was intentional, evoking the mood of blues music itself—melancholic yet powerful, simple yet profound. The iridescent blue catches the light differently depending on the angle, creating a sense of rhythm and energy that echoes the music being played. "Matt's Blues" is both a portrait and a performance frozen in time, paying tribute to the timeless bond between musician and instrument.
