This is my latest painting titled "Stella Blue Matt," created using a gel plate as part of a recent set of commissions. The piece captures Matt in silhouette, playing his guitar like a performer lost in the music under the glow of blue stage lights. The choice of color and shadow creates both intimacy and presence, reflecting the mood of a live performance where the focus is entirely on the connection between musician and song.
Across the composition, I added the lyrics to "Stella Blue" by the Grateful Dead, one of Matt’s favorite songs, written in a fine baby blue paint marker. The handwritten text weaves into the background and complements the imagery, adding layers of meaning and personal significance. The combination of silhouette, color, and song creates a tribute not only to music but to the individual experience of finding identity and joy within it.
