Religious
This is my first attempt at painting "She Cried at the Altar" (see previous posts). Well, they cannot all be winners, and sometimes you learn more from your misses and failures than from the ones that come out "good." I had been holding on to this piece since around July or August, and I figured I would post it today so that any artists coming up can see that failure is just as important a part of the creative process as success. While I still like the overall color composition, I feel the muted browns and light blue tones did not breathe enough life into the piece. The smile, which I intended to show as a forced expression in the middle of sadness, ended up looking more comical than I would have liked, which distracted from the emotional weight I was going for.
I am glad I decided to shelve it and start from scratch because the second version came out much closer to my vision and captured the emotion I wanted to portray. Sometimes walking away from a piece and returning to it later with fresh eyes is the best decision you can make. Art is not just about creating something beautiful—it is also about learning patience, humility, and growth through imperfection. Every painting, whether successful or not, leaves behind lessons that shape the next. What do you think?
