Look Past the Words
“Be Wary of Bad Apples and Snakes,” created on September 28, 2025, stands as a striking meditation within my “Look Past The Words” gallery, available at elvissantana.com. This piece fuses the sacred and the street, blending elements of religious iconography with the raw expressiveness of graffiti to confront the viewer’s instinct to accept things at face value. Through color, form, and symbolism, I invite the audience to peel back layers of meaning, to question their perceptions, and to confront the uneasy truths hidden beneath familiar narratives.
At its core, the work is both a reflection and a warning. The image of Eve, her face marked and inscribed, becomes a mirror for our own vulnerability to temptation and deceit. The snakes surrounding her are not distant threats—they are intimate, often intertwined with those we cherish and trust. This piece challenges viewers to recognize those serpents in their own lives, to think before acting, to question what seems pure or righteous, and to resist the seduction of surface truths.
