Look Past the Words
My latest artwork, "Set The Believers An Example In Conduct", is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic piece on cardstock, created using a partial gel plate transfer technique. The central figure—a man in a business suit—stands as a symbol of leadership, though his face is intentionally obscured by layered, grungy paint textures in raw and emotive tones. Over this haunting abstraction, the phrase "Set The Believers An Example In Conduct" is scrawled in bold, graffiti-style lettering of red, white, and pink. The golden ornamental background provides a rich, almost sacred frame, suggesting reverence for the message it carries.
This piece is a quiet tribute to the kind of leader we rarely celebrate loudly—those who uplift, support, and lead with integrity. It’s inspired in part by my current boss, and by others I’ve been fortunate enough to work with who don’t just talk about values—they embody them. These are the people who demand high standards but recognize human struggle; who offer not just direction, but compassion. They put their teams in positions to thrive without stifling them, and they lead with humility and strength. This painting is a visual reminder that true leadership isn’t about power—it’s about presence, purpose, and example.
