Abstract
Cactus Blue was created in mid October as part of my continuing exploration of abstract forms that emerge from spontaneous processes. This piece was developed alongside my gel plate paintings, using the leftover paints to guide the creation of its shapes, textures, and tones. The composition features rolled layers of black paint contrasted with vivid blue circles and bold patches of red and yellow, all worked into the cardstock with a rough, expressive hand. The result is a vibrant and chaotic landscape of color and motion that feels both unplanned and deeply intentional, capturing the energy of experimentation and discovery.
The name Cactus Blue comes from a small but meaningful accident. A stamp that had been tested on the paper before painting bled through the layers of pigment, reappearing faintly in the final work. I chose to leave it untouched as a quiet tribute to the unexpected nature of art and the beauty of imperfection. Within the composition, two subtle cactus forms appear to rise from the abstract desert, anchoring the piece in both place and imagination. It stands as a reflection of chance, intuition, and the way meaning can surface when least expected.
