Fantasy, Mythology and Science Fiction
“Buffalo Skeleton” is my latest painting, created on eight point five by eleven inch cardstock paper using the gel plate method. This piece imagines a native American skeleton standing in the open desert, armed with a gun and a knife, driven by the spirit of vengeance. Painted in deep desert reds and warm tan tones, the scene captures both the harsh beauty of the landscape and the mythic strength of the figure moving through it. The work draws heavily from the bold imagery of western pulp stories and the dramatic style found in fantasy art and classic comic illustrations.
In creating this piece, I wanted to honor the larger than life characters that shaped so many of our imaginations while exploring themes of resilience, justice, and spiritual endurance. The skeletal figure stands as both a guardian and a reminder of stories lost to time, emerging from the desert like a legend brought back to life.
