Fantasy, Mythology and Science Fiction
“Dead In The Night” is my latest painting, created on eight and a half by eleven inch cardstock using the gel plate method. Inspired by old tales of the Wild West and those haunting series like Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow, I wanted to blend folklore, fear, and fantasy into a single image. This piece imagines a skeletal woman wandering the prairie in search of those who wronged her, a spirit driven by justice and fury. Her figure is rendered in deep reds, rust, tan, and other warm tones as she stands holding a revolver with a presence that feels both eerie and powerful.
The background is painted in rich purples, indigo, and blue, then dusted with glitter to create a night sky filled with shimmering stars. To complete the effect, the skeleton is finished with a glow in the dark glaze so that only the bones illuminate when the lights go out, giving the scene an otherworldly life after sunset.
