More Abstract
I created this abstract artwork on the back of a recycled Eggo waffles box, choosing its discarded surface as a place to build something new. Working with layers of tan, blue, green and brown, I combined brush strokes, rolled paint, and a variety of marks that pushed against one another. As the layers accumulated, they formed a sense of tension and energetic disorder that felt alive, as if the piece were shifting beneath my hands while I worked.
The bold and bright blue tracks through the center and left side of the painting reminded me of the deep impressions left by large construction vehicles. That association inspired the title Atropellado, a word meaning run over. The painting carries that spirit, surrounding the viewer with chaotic movement and intense color, almost as if they themselves have been run over by the energy of the piece.
