More Word on the Street
"It Is Up To Each Of Us" is a painting I created in October of 2025 as part of my Word on the Street project. This ongoing series involves placing unexpected artistic messages in public spaces, allowing them to be discovered rather than presented. My intention is to inspire, motivate, challenge, and quietly engage anyone who happens upon the work, inviting a moment of reflection in the middle of everyday life.
In this piece, I combined mixed media collage with raw texture and bold text to create a sense of urgency and emotional weight. The surface carries a visceral energy, while the words anchor the composition in a philosophical question rather than a definitive statement. I was interested in the tension between chaos and clarity, and how meaning can feel both fractured and deeply personal depending on who is looking and when they encounter it.
This work sits at the intersection of graffiti like immediacy and the introspection of abstract expressionism and collage. For me, it is a meditation on pain, purpose, and the responsibility each of us holds in assigning value to our own experiences. The message is not meant to instruct, but to remind the viewer that interpretation itself is an act of choice.
