This portrait was created after Karla reached out to me through my website to honor the memory of her Aunt Titi. As I learned about her life, I wanted the painting to reflect not just her likeness but her spirit. I worked with light blue tones because it was her favorite color and used layered text and texture to suggest the richness of her story. Music and movement were important to her, especially her love for Juan Gabriel and dancing, so I wanted the surface to feel alive and rhythmic. Her elegance and sense of style guided the way I shaped her expression, her posture, and the warmth in her smile.
For me this painting is about remembrance and presence. Aunt Titi was deeply loved, a world traveler who carried Cuba, Paris, and Spain with her, and someone who held her family close, including her son Julio, her daughter in law Madelin, and her grandchildren Natalia and Sebastian. I wanted the portrait to feel like a conversation between memory and love, layered with words, color, and emotion. This piece stands as a tribute to a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and continues to exist through the stories and hearts of those who remember her as Abuela Titi.
