Kaiho
Kaiho
Mixed Media (Acrylic, Ink, Spray Paint) on Cardboard
10.5” x 11.25”
2025

This painting presents the word “Kaiho” as both language and image, transforming typography into a vibrant, expressive form. The bold red letters swell and curve with a sense of motion, outlined and highlighted to give them a sculptural, almost liquid presence. Set against a rhythmic field of deep blues, teal, and scattered white and green marks, the text appears to float and pulse, asserting itself as the emotional center of the composition.

The background is alive with pattern and repetition: diagonal blue strokes sweep across the surface like waves or currents, while dotted accents suggest atmosphere, energy, or sound. The contrast between the saturated red lettering and the cooler surrounding hues creates visual tension, drawing the viewer into a dynamic push and pull between foreground and ground. Subtle drips, scratches, and layered textures reveal the hand of the artist, emphasizing process and spontaneity over polish.

More than a decorative statement, the work reads as a declaration. “Kaiho,” a word associated with release or liberation, becomes an embodied gesture through color, scale, and movement. The painting invites viewers to feel the word rather than simply read it, offering a moment of openness and momentum—an affirmation rendered in paint that resonates beyond language itself.
