Ruins, Structures and Architecture

This house represents more than a place of residence to me, it stands as a witness to the beginnings of a life that would reshape history. The home of Martin Luther King Jr holds the quiet weight of childhood, family, faith, and early formation. It is where values were nurtured long before the world knew his name, and where the foundation of courage and compassion was laid. Painting it felt like honoring the roots of a legacy that grew outward to move an entire nation.
As I worked on this piece, I focused on atmosphere rather than architectural precision. The softened edges and layered textures are meant to suggest memory, history, and the passage of time. I wanted the house to feel present but slightly distant, as if seen through reflection or recollection. The path leading toward it invites the viewer inward, echoing the idea that every journey toward justice begins somewhere quiet and personal.
This painting is about origin and grounding. The darker tones and weathered surface acknowledge the struggles that surrounded his life and work, while the structure itself remains steady and upright. I wanted the home to feel resilient, holding space for both hope and hardship. In painting it, I was thinking about how greatness often rises from ordinary places, and how the spaces we come from continue to shape who we become and what we stand for.
