Collaborations
“Ginger Curls” is a celebration of imagination and inherited creativity. The subject is a wide eyed figure crowned with a wild halo of crimson curls, her expression suspended between surprise and delight. There is a sweetness in her gaze that feels unguarded and honest, as if she has just stepped out of a daydream. Her rosy cheeks and luminous eyes radiate personality, capturing the charm and spontaneity that first inspired the work.
This painting is a quasi collaboration with my daughter, known as MoonpieArt. The piece began as one of her small sketches, the kind she casually creates and, to my disbelief, often tosses aside. I rescued a few of those drawings, determined to honor what I see as undeniable talent. Though she does not make art with me these days, transforming her sketch into this painting allowed me to share that creative space with her once again. She may be fifteen on the outside, but whenever I see her draw, I still see the little girl at the kitchen table surrounded by crayons and possibility.
Visually, the canvas bursts with saturated blues, deep reds, and flashes of green that frame the central figure like a playful stage. The textured brushwork gives depth to her abundant curls, while the bold outlines and layered strokes preserve the innocence of the original sketch. Her patterned blue garment anchors the composition, balancing the vibrant movement above. The result is both whimsical and heartfelt, a testament to growth, memory, and a father’s enduring pride. Love you Moon.
