Pretty Little Partitions
Pretty Little Partitions
Acrylic on Cardstock
8.5” x 11”
2026

This abstract composition explores the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity through a series of overlapping rectangular forms and energetic brushwork. The piece uses a complex palette where deep, oceanic blues and vivid magentas intersect with neutral tones of cream and weathered gold. By layering these "partitions," the work creates a sense of architectural depth, suggesting windows, doorways, or hidden rooms within a vibrant, urban landscape. The intentional scuffing and visible textures invite the viewer to peer through the different strata of paint, discovering new colors and shapes buried beneath the surface.

Dynamic movement is achieved through the contrast of sharp, horizontal bands and vertical drips that run through the center of the canvas. Small accents of bright red and teal serve as focal points, drawing the eye across the grid-like arrangement and adding a playful, rhythmic quality to the overall design. The title reflects the way these colorful divisions both separate and connect different emotional spaces, resulting in a harmonious yet complex visual narrative. It is a celebration of the beauty found in boundaries and the stories that exist in the spaces between them.
