Side Bars is an evocative exploration of horizontal rhythm and atmospheric color, where the artist uses a series of stacked bands to suggest a landscape seen through a veil of memory or motion. The composition is built upon a foundation of soft, watery greys and blues that provide a tranquil base for the more energetic layers above. Each stripe of paint serves as a separate chapter in a visual narrative, with some bands appearing thick and opaque while others remain translucent, allowing the texture of the paper to breathe through. This layering creates a sense of profound depth, as if the viewer is looking through multiple strata of the natural world, from the deep minerals of the earth to the shifting light of a coastal sky.

The color palette is a harmonious blend of organic tones and sudden, vibrant interruptions that keep the eye moving across the canvas. Deep moss greens and earthy ochres are punctuated by a striking band of magenta and a thin, electric line of white that adds a flickering energy to the center of the piece. Subtle details, such as the row of pale dots along a forest green section and the jagged red accents on the lower yellow bar, introduce a sense of delicate craftsmanship amidst the broader, gestural strokes. These horizontal divisions do not act as barriers but rather as bridges that connect the different emotional and visual frequencies of the work, resulting in a cohesive and rhythmic whole.

In this specific artwork, the title Side Bars reflects the way the composition breaks down a singular view into a series of distinct, parallel experiences. The bleed of the paint at the edges and the visible brush hairs in the lighter washes give the piece an authentic, raw quality that emphasizes the process of creation. By focusing on the strength of the horizontal line, the artist manages to capture a feeling of stability and horizon, even as the colors themselves suggest a world in constant flux. Side Bars stands as a testament to the power of abstract minimalism, proving that a simple arrangement of light and pigment can evoke the vast complexity of the horizon and the quiet transition of the seasons.
