More Abstract
“Crabs” is a vivid, layered composition that blurs the line between abstraction and figuration, inviting the viewer to search beneath its energetic surface. Bursts of saturated color collide across the canvas, with electric blues, hot pinks, acidic greens, and sunlit yellows building a sense of movement that feels both chaotic and intentional. Amid this visual storm, ghostlike impressions of crabs emerge and dissolve, their forms partially concealed beneath textured brushwork and translucent washes. Circular motifs punctuated by red centers echo like symbols or distant suns, adding rhythm and repetition while hinting at hidden structures within the apparent disorder.
The painting carries a tactile quality, as if each mark records a moment of instinct rather than control. Scraped layers, smeared pigments, and gestural strokes create depth that feels almost archaeological, revealing traces of what lies beneath while resisting a single fixed interpretation. There is a push and pull between the organic and the constructed, between coastal life and abstract emotion, suggesting memory, environment, and perception all at once. “Crabs” ultimately becomes less about literal representation and more about the sensation of encountering life in fragments, fleeting and vibrant, just beneath the surface.
