Imagine A Wild Kingdom
In my latest painting titled Raven Avenue, I continue to build upon my ongoing series that visualizes a timeline where human beings never existed and animals evolved to take our place in history. This piece imagines an elegant figure from a bygone era, wandering through the polite society of an alternate past. I selected a raven to represent this aristocratic character, pairing her dark feathers with a striking purple gown and a modest bonnet to capture the fashion and stiff etiquette of the period. The ornate, swirling background grounds her in a setting that feels both distinctly historical and entirely otherworldly.
Blending my deep appreciation for vintage aesthetics with a slight touch of the macabre, I wanted this portrait to feel simultaneously familiar and unsettling. The deep contrasts between the dark, textured bird and the vivid violet clothing create a moody atmosphere that invites the viewer to look closer. Through Raven Avenue, I am asking my audience to reconsider the historical moments we take for granted and picture the complex, beautiful, and eerie cultures that might have risen if the animal kingdom had inherited the earth.
