My latest portrait, titled "Hearing Damaged Erica" is the raw, abstract sister piece to "Fight Erica." Like its counterpart, this portrait honors my unmet muse, wonderful text buddy, and devoted fan, capturing our ongoing creative bond built through shared conversations and music. Surrounding her likeness are the handwritten lyrics to Thom Yorke's haunting track "Hearing Damage"—a favorite song that infuses the entire background with an eerie, hypnotic energy.
What makes this artwork truly unique is its origin in chaos and serendipity. The piece was born out of an initial misprint that I almost discarded entirely, turning what could have been trash into a canvas for experimentation. Every layer became a exercise in embracing the unexpected—including the fresh gold-lettered lyrics that reactively stripped and blurred in places when I sprayed the clear coat, creating a string of "happy little accidents" that give the portrait its deeply distressed, ethereal texture.
Visually, "Hearing Damaged Erica" thrives on its moody, textured atmosphere and bold color choices. The central silhouette is shrouded in deep indigo blue and charcoal black gel plate textures, with her classic crimson lips offering a sharp, dramatic pop of color amidst the dark tones. The weathered gold script loops around the frame like a distant echo, perfectly echoing the title's musical inspiration and celebrating the unpredictable magic that happens when you let an art piece guide its own creation.
