My latest portrait, titled "American Dreaming" is an ethereal, evocative tribute to roots-music sensation Sierra Ferrell. Capturing her timeless, otherworldly charm, the piece visualizes the delicate balance between wanderlust and world-weariness that permeates her songwriting. Rising softly through textured, atmospheric layers of rose, lavender, and dusty blue, Ferrell's features emerge like a bittersweet memory conjured from life spent endlessly rolling down the highway.
The composition literally constructs Ferrell’s likeness out of the handwritten verses of her title track, "American Dreaming." Rendered in deep indigo cursive, the lyrics flow along the curve of her hair, forehead, and jawline, giving shape to her gaze while echoing the haunting weight of lines like "Wake up again in an old motel / Is it somewhere different?
