The Inside Joke > Down To The Bones

As a centerpiece of the new collection "The Inside Joke: Down To The Bones," "The Worries" builds upon the psychological foundations laid in last year's well-received exhibition, "The Inside Joke: The Bare Bones of Narcissism." This year's series expands its view far beyond the mechanics of self-absorption, stripping back the layers of the human condition to confront darker, more universal internal struggles. Among these, "The Worries" specifically zeroes in on anxiety—the single most frequently treated condition by mental health professionals today.

In this piece, the skeletal subject sits curled inward against a murky, green-hued backdrop, perfectly capturing the visceral, suffocating weight of an overactive mind. Emerging directly from the head is a dense storm of chaotic scribbles, tangled arrows, numbers, and fragmented equations. This visual representation of overthinking illustrates how anxiety traps an individual within a maze of endless "what-ifs," mathematical calculations of fear, and relentless noise that feels impossible to quiet.

By pairing the signature skeletal iconography with the overwhelming physical presence of mental anguish, "The Worries" invites viewers to look past surface appearances and reflect on the hidden burdens so many carry. It lays bare the internal friction between existence and mind, offering an honest, hauntingly poignant mirror to one of modern society's most shared psychological experiences.
